April WIPocalypse... Longest WIP and FINISHES!!

Happy April y'all!

I think I was sufficiently ashamed of my lack of WIPocalypse progress in March that I managed to focus on some WIPocalypse projects in April. And I finished one!!

Granted, my finish was Kathy Barrick's Bird Study, which was one of the projects that I started on 31 December 2017 in order to qualify for the Year of WIPs challenge in the Facebook group Soulful Stitching.  But hey, a finish is a finish, right?

So, here is Bird Study:

And here is my finish:

I finished it on April 6 and used all of the called for DMC. I stitched it with one strand of floss over one square on 16 count Aida that was dyed for me by Drew of Weasley Studios.

Our WIPocalypse prompt this month is: Talk to us about your longest-running WIP or UFO.

So, prior to January 2017, I was a monogamous stitcher. It's true. So my "longest-running WIP" was started in February 2017 and is just over one year old.

It's the Stitchrovia MIND SAL aka Quotes to Live By:

I stitched on this a LOT in February (I believe) and I made good progress. Here is where I am now:

So, that's it for this month! Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone else's progress.

Show Notes: Stitch With Me #21

Happy Sunday (again)! Today on my Stitch With Me video I worked on Here Lie My Needles from Shakespeare's Peddler (again).

I'm really trying to push for a finish on this one by the end of the month. Considering that's tomorrow... I may not make it.
At the start of the video

At the end of the video (minus the double border in the bottom right corner)

I made good progress and I'm not going to push too hard because I really enjoy stitching on this piece, but I want it to be finished because I LOVE IT. and I want to HAVE it!!

I blabbered for a while about the problem of stay at home parents not being paid. Here is the article that I referenced: "Fathers, You Can't Afford a Stay At Home Mom"

And you COULD hear my Zojirushi water boiler!! I love the little ditties that that thing plays. Here's a link to check it out yourself. It's A-MAZ-ING!!

Oh my detox.... I do it through Arbonne. It consists of substituting 1-2 meals with a protein shake plus fiber, plus some detox tea (doesn't make you poop, don't worry), plus some digestion plus, some B-vitamins for energy (because NO COFFEE!), plus one week of detox drink. It's easy. If you want to check out the details, click on the picture. If not, scroll on past (but throw a word or two of encouragement at me!)

And here's a pic of my mani:
(that's Weeks Dye Works Straw linen)

Sweet as Honey Finish

It's a crazy end-of-month finishing frenzy!! I always seem to do this! Why? Well, mostly because I'm in a lot of swaps and I leave everything till the end of the month.... -_- I know.

So, I am part of the Facebook group: Cross Stitch Card & ATC SAL and the April theme was Spring.

I chose a design called Sweet as Honey by Durene Jones. It can be found in Cross Stitcher September 2017:

I stitched this with MOSTLY the called for colors, just subbing one or two here and there when I couldn't put my hand on the called for DMC immediately.

Here is my progress:

Day 1, 23 April 2018

Day 2, finish, 28 April 2018

And! Will wonders never cease?! FFO'd into a card for my partner on 28 April 2018 as well.

Now it's back to Here Lie My Needles by Shakespeare's Peddler. The obsession with this chart is REAL!!

Friendship is a Sheltering Tree

Sometimes you just need to drop everything and stitch a thing. This is what happened with Friendship is a Sheltering Tree by All Through the Night. Jay of Mortuary Stitches (on Flosstube) sent this chart to me AGES ago! This seemed like the time to stitch it.

And I didn't waste ANY time!! I started this piece on 24-April-2018 and put the signature on it on 28-April-2018. WHAT!

It's stitched one strand over two on 40 count Weeks Dye Works linen with DMC 4140. I have to say, I need to take a closer look at the DMC variegated flosses! This one was great to work with.

Big thanks to Jeannine at Acorns & Threads and Lisa Kindred Stitcher for helping me choose fabric and floss.

Here are my (few!) daily progress photos:

Day 4

Isn't it crazy how much the lighting changes fabric and floss?

I think I can get ONE MORE APRIL FINISH!!!

Finishes
And here is mine, all finished:

This was SO much fun to stitch!!! Angel Adams, Girl with a Needle, is going to help me finish it like a Huswife. We'll record that and share the hijinks.

WIPs (Works in Progress)
  • First up is Here Lie My Needles from Shakespeare's Peddler:
Here's what it looked like last time:

And here is what it looked like in today's video:

I'm stitching with two of the called for flosses and everything else is a conversion to what I had in stash. For details on the conversion, see my Stitch With Me #20 Show Notes post.

  • Sweet as Hone by Durene Jones from Cross Stitcher, September 2017:

I'm using most of the called for colors with a substitution here and there for ones I couldn't find and it's on a piece of 14 count printed Aida:

Flosstube Shoutouts:
Books:

  • The High Mountains of Portugal by Yann Martel:
I gave this book a 2/5 stars. It's in three parts, but part one was TERRIBLE, part two was okay, and part three was decent but not good enough to save the book. By all means, give it a go, it may be your Iberian rhinocerous. But it wasn't mine.
  • The Mr. XStitch Guide to Cross Stitch by Jamie Chalmers:
I cannot recommend this book highly enough, and not just because I'm friends with Jamie. There truly is something in here for everyone. If you know how to cross stitch, then pick this up to learn about glow in the dark thread or blackwork or artists pushing the boundaries of stitching. If you know someone who doesn't stitch, pick this up for them so they will think cross stitch is COOL. Because it IS!
