Flosstube #99 Show Notes

Happy Saturady!!! It's March!! and it's my birthday month!!

I'm pretty bummed that I'm not at Market... but that leads me right into my best new thing!

Finishes: 
  • Are you ready for this?! Wacky Witches in Stitches is DONE!!

I made that picture EXTRA LARGE because I EXTRA love this. I only made a few changes, mostly to the witches' skin tones to diversify the piece a bit. I also used DMC e940 glow in the dark white in place of B5200 and used Gentle Arts Blackboard in place of DMC 310.

I'm SO proud of myself!!! 


WIPs (Works in Progress): 
The big finish on Wacky Witches left me with only two WIPs this week:

It didn't get a whole lot of love due to Snowpocalypse, but I did decide on a name for her: Rose Weasley. She's a FLAMING gorgeous redhead and (get ready for controversy...) I ship Hermione as a POC. So, CLEARLY, Rose Weasley will be a POC redhead!!! I'm stitching her in DMC 436 and I LEGIT cannot wait.

I totally hit my February goal of a page 2 page finish even though I missed one day of stitching on her. So I'm out for the OFFICIAL Full Coverage Fanatics 90 Day Challenge, but I'm going to keep going on #TheYearofJosephine, because really, what is ONE missed day!?

This project has ALL of the blended threads and ALL of the half vs full crosses and THAT is what is gong to make it AMAZING.

I'm stitching it on 16 ct Aida that I dyed with Navy Rit. I love, love, LOVE this chart. I love it so much that when Hanna contacted me for a review of one of her charts last month (review and chart are coming!) I asked her if I could rep for her!!

  • We hit an estate sale last weekend! It was almost completely bought out, but I did score two vintage (1975!) Crewel kits for Michelle, Romantic Tangle:

Flosstube Shoutouts: 
  • Hillary, Rustic Threads: she's on Flosstube #2. She maaaaay be in California, but I'm STILL not totally sure. She's stitching the CCN Houses of the Month AND dyeing her own GORGEOUS flosses. I can't wait to see more. 


Books:


    I chose this book to fulfill the February Reading Extra Credit in the School of Magical Stitches & Literature group on Facebook of "Read a book with an elf in it"

    I didn't finish the book until March 1, so it didn't count for the February Magical Stitches Extra Credit, but it did count for the yearly reading challenge. So, win.

    I really enjoyed it. Gave it 3.5/5 stars. I liked the story, despite how derivative it is of Tolkein (you just can't help that). I was a little annoyed that every time a dangerous creature opened its mouth "it's jaw split to expose a gaping maw filled with [sharp teeth]". Mr Brooks could have used a thesaurus for that phrase.

    Flosstube #76 Show Notes

    Happy Flosstubesday!!! It's September 25, 2018 and I'm BACK on the Blog!! YAY!! It feels good.

    Best New Thing: 
    • I received the SWEETEST Stitchy Kindness in the mail from Kaitlyn at Big Apple Stitching!! This is only part of it, but here is the teensy tiny necklace that she stitched for me. SHE STITCHED IT FOR ME!! 

    FFOs, just one, and it's not even stitching.
    • I finished a La D Da Scissors block and fob and it's FANTASTIC: 


      And I have quite a few of those pictures left, so I'm going to try to find more blocks and make some more of these!! 
    • And, DUH!! I also finished my #CrossStitchATCs for this month!! The theme was Pirates vs Princesses: 
    This is the motif from Sue Hillis' Women Who Behave chart. And I stepped up my game on the finishing of the ATC and I'm SUPER proud of it!! 

    Finishes: 
    • I finished the top left corner block and filigree on Quotes to Live By (aka the MIND SAL) from Stitchrovia:

    I subbed Dr. Frankenstein's skin and made him brown using DMC 436 which is Latisha (The Crafty Curator)'s base tone. ;-)



    WIPs (Works in Progress): 
    • I've been working on my Quotes to Live by Piece more, and here is where I am now: 
    I think I can have this finished by the end of the month!! (Did I say that already? The more you say it, the more likely it becomes!!)

    • And there was a LOT of work put in on A Bowl Full of Scaries this week! The weather has been SO nice and we were outside!
    Last week it wasn't started and here it is now:

    Thrifting:
    • Not TOO much thrifting this week, just a couple of gooies: 


    Purchases: Not so many this week!! 
    • I went to Joann's. For ONE SKEIN of 761... and I came out with this: 
    All of the Fat Quarters are headed to Love You More Studio Co for custom sleeves. HELLO checking off the Christmas list!! 
    • This Month's Colour & Cotton flosses came and they. are. GORGEOUS!! Angela does not disappont. EVER. I got the brights: 

      (I found the fifth one, it's Mermaid Shimmer on the left)
    AND I got the Prims:

    OMG. Rusted. Tin. 



    Happy Mail/Gifts: 
    • First of all, a REALLY kind package arrived from Kaitlyn, Big Apple Stitching: 
    She wanted to remind me to take care of myself during this whole thing and this package is ALL about that, from the cool vintage postcards to the silks, it's perfect. Thank you! 
    • The second half of my VMSS flosses came from Edwige! LOVE: 
    They're FANTASTIC and that Vivid Teal and Multi Orange are PERFECTION. (click on the pic to go to Nancy's blog for purchasing)
    • Sharon sent a gorgeous Jeannette Douglas chart that I haevn't seen before! and some stamps to help with Alzheimer's shipping: 

    Books:
    • I finished reading Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas this week and O. M. G!!!! (click on the picture for the Goodreads page)
    I. LOVED. THIS. BOOK. I have new favourite characters; my old favourite characters were confirmed; previously disliked characters were fleshed out more and I get them and like them now. I want to be in Aelin's court. Basically. And ROWAN. DONE!! I"M DONE!! Dead on the floor.

    Flosstube #75 Show Notes

    Happy Flosstubesday!!! It's September 18, 2018 and I'm BACK on the Blog!! YAY!! It feels good.

    Best New Thing: 
    • I bought my first Alex & Ani bracelet!!! It's the Snape bracelet, or "Turn to Page 394" It HAD to be mine because whenever I'm asked to guess a number, my AUTOMATIC guess is 394. "Michelle, how many days left in September?" "394" (Click on the pic to go to Alex & Ani to check it out--I'm not affiliated with them; I just love it)

    • First up is Starry, Starry Night from Bent Creek. I bought this half stitched on eBay and finished it up for the SFS credit, then gave it to JoLynn to finish off for me: 

    • Next up is B's Houses from B's under the bed box, which I showed on a special Estate Sale Haul video. Again, I gave JoLynn free reign on finishing and she knocked it out of the park: 

    • Last but CERTAINLY not least is Stacy Nash's Martha Agnes Sampler Roll. JoLynn followed Stacy Nash's finishing directions and KILLED IT: 




    Finishes: 
    • I finished the top left corner block and filigree on Quotes to Live By (aka the MIND SAL) from Stitchrovia:

    I finished that block and the swirlies in three days. I have three more similar boxes left, could I have this DONE by next video? MAYBE!!



    WIPs (Works in Progress): 
    • First I worked on Black Cat Hollow for the #BlackCatHollowSAL by Barbara Ana Designs:(click on the picture to purchase from Gulf Coast Stitches)

      I had made progress before put picked it all out, so here is where I am: 
      It's charted in DMC but I went through my stash and pulled similar fancy flosses (becuase I have  LOT of fancy flosses!!). The only change that I made was to stitch the witch's skin in GA Green Apple instead of the called for peachy color. I love her. 

      The Needleminder is from @HouseOfMeng on Instagram. BE CAREFUL! They're adorable and addictive!! 


    • Next the wheel spun Halloween Quaker from Lila's Studio: (click on the pic to purchase from Lila's Studio on Etsy)

    That is NOT bad progress!!  This is stitched in none of the called for flosses (but a lot of VERY similar Fancy flosses and DMCs that were already in my stash) on a fabric that I duo dyed (like solo dyed but there are two of them!) for Imperfectly Perfect Heather and I.

    I made good progress for just working on it during the stitch with me: 

    This project comes with a real danger of "project too close to the face syndrome", but once I figured that out I love it and I can't wait to stitch on it on Sundays!! 

    I also love the fact that this project has EXACTLY 40 colors and that makes it PERFECT for my BagzPlus floss buddy!

    • And for today, I'm going to ship TONS of Live Sale goodies, stitch more on Quotes to Live By, and my travel project is going to be PART of Scary One from Plum Street Samplers: 
    I haven't started it yet, but I do have it all packed up to carry around, in my LoveYouMoreStudios sleeve!! they're PERFECT for on the go/small WIPS!! NOW I HAVE A REASON TO BUY ALL THE SLEVES!!!

    Books:
    • I finished the audiobook version of When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi: (click on the picture to go to the Goodreads page)

    This has been on my TBR list for SO long. It's the memoir of a 36 year old neurosurgeon who is diagnosed with lung cancer and proceeds to fail first, second, and third line treatments. It made me laugh and cry and screen shot things for future reference. 4/5 Stars

    • And I finished Scarlet by Marissa Meyer: (click on the pic to go to the Goodreads page)
    I'm DEFINITELY #TeamJacob, so I loved this book. I loved Cinder as well, but I loved Scarlet MORE. She and Wolf made my life; I couldn't stop listening; I finished the audiobook in THREE DAYS. And you KNOW I've already reserved Cress from Overdrive. 4.5/5 stars
