Flosstube #68 Show Notes

Happy last Tuesday in July!!

Best New Thing: 

  • Instagram tv! It's an amazing place to upload videos between 3 minutes and 10 minutes long. It's like watching Mini Flosstubes and I'm OBSESSED. 
Plus, Jan Hicks puts up videos; so you know I'm there. 

FFOs: 
I don't have the cording for the top because I made mine too short!! Dangit. But check the polka dots on the inside of the box--that's a bag from Stitchville USA.

I'm stitching mine on 28 count Whisper lugana. The colors are various: 
    • Mo's Sale Argentina (borders of the dividers)
    • Gentle Arts Soot (dark grey)
    • Colour & Cotton Desert Taupe (light grey in motif)
    • Victorian Motto Pretty Pink Petals (light pink in motif)
    • City Needlework #34 silk (dark pink in motif)
    • MadXStitcher Peppermint  (white/pink in the center of motif and all letters)

  • For the #JMDSturns5 SAL on Instagram, I worked on my Jeannette Douglas My Stitching Box piece that was the focus of the Acorns & Threads class in March: (maybe you've heard me mention it?)

Books:

I read this book before, in college, so it was a SOLID 10-15 years ago. I liked it at the time but couldn't appreciate the ending. Due to life experience, I can appreciate the ending much more at 36 than I could at 21 or 22. This is  a perfect example of what Ms. Atwood does best: dystopia. But in Oryx & Crake she takes it a step further and gives us an already dystopian society falling (or being pushed?) to a new level of dystopia. I give it a solid 4/5 stars, upgraded from my 3/5 stars a decade or so ago. 

NOT to be read or listened to with children! I also never realized that this is the first in a series so I'm off to find the others.

WIPs (Works in Progress)
I'm stitching mine with all of the called for DMC on a piece of fabric dyed for me (like a YEAR ago!) by the lovely Andrea Stitches in CO. And here is my progress as of last week:

HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE THIS?!?! I'm obsessed with it. OBSESSED. I'm stitching it on a 30 count linen that's hand dyed by Andrea Stitches in CO with all of the called for DMC colors.
